It’s funny how things work out in this life. Last year when we first came to Semur on vacation I remember our first walk through the village and seeing a house that literally stopped me in my tracks. Every time I passed it I felt happy, now I see it every day.
But what makes me really happy is that we’ve become friends with the owner of this magical place and he’s even lovelier than his home. Warning: excessive drooling may occur.
Amazing right? And this is only half of it!! I feel incredibly fortunate to be invited to this place and to know the sweet man who lovingly cares for it every day (he also makes glorious tarte tartin). Of course I’m not the only person who loves chez Francis and this weekend if you happen to be in Semur you can see it for yourself as he opens his gate for the Jardins et Santé charity tour. The charity recognizes the healing powers of garden so if you need a lift this weekend come on back and take it all in again and again. Merci Francis…
ps thanks to Neil for these gorgeous photos
Wow – talk about stairways to heaven. Gorgeous photos, gorgeous gardens, gorgeous house.
These photos are exactly what I imagine a French country estate would look like. Beautiful!
So peaceful….
There are fairies living in that garden. I just know it.
Waoww!! I still continue to discover Semur, this garden is absolutely amazing!
If you want to discover another wonderful garden, Cécile and Jean-Louis open their (at Villeneuve sous Charigny) on Sunday…for Jardins et Santé!!!
PS: I’m in Paris, I haven’t met a man with a bouquet and chocolates yet, no date to the restaurant either…but I don’t wear gorgeous black dress ;-)
i want to live in that garden. just me, a book, maybe a coffee. i’d turn myself into a squirrel if i could if it meant i could stay there (of course, still with a coffee and a book.)
your pictures are gorgeous. both these and your new pad. the stonework is gorgeous.
Stunning gardens, and kudos to Neil for the photos.
Gorgeous. :) You’re so lucky, hun. (But you already know that. ;-) )
I agree with amyg’s above comment – I want to live in that garden. My first thought was “it can’t be real!”. Love it. Thank Neil for the snaps – gorgeous!
Seriously? You post stuff like this, along with your last photos of your very own gorgeous place, and expect the rest of us to somehow carry on in our own fully inadequate dwellings?
I thought people of your background would be more caring and sympathetic than this.
I know, Europe has changed me…

Beyond beautiful. I love the secrets and messiness of French gardens. So many layers. Bonne dimanche! I’m off to do some gardening. Ciao cat
Since my current historical fiction is set in France, perhaps I can borrow these images for inspiration? Stunning and charming at the same time. I’ve just spent two hours weeding my wee back garden – cannot imagine how he keeps his looking so exquisite.
